1. What we shipped
This week we released our marketing website (kanka.io) in French, Spanish, German and Brazilian Portuguese. It was something we had before the redesign of 2021, and something I’ve been meaning to do ever since. It’s not fully finished (you can’t switch languages in the UI, we let Google decide which version to send you to), but it was a lot of work to get to this state. I also took the time for fix a bunch of SEO issues and English spelling mistakes in the various pages.
2. What we’re working on next
I’m putting the finishing touches on the next 3.13 release, which will include the new image selector shown in the previous dev log. This should be released next week.
Three months ago we made changes to the cancellation form to gather a bit more insightful data. This week we actually had a look (n=205) and something kept coming up. When a campaign is no longer premium, most of the premium content gets hidden, which to a user is the same as it being deleted. That especially sucks for multi-year campaigns where have ended – they return to a standard Kanka look and feel. The magic and effort you put into making the campaign yours disappears. So we’re making some changes in 3.13 to be kinder to campaigns which have ended but are still full of beautiful worldbuilding.
3. Behind the scenes
About a year ago I set up a “catch all” for our email, so people who send us an email with a typo in the address still get their email delivered. That scenario has happened exactly 0 times. What instead has happened is an absolute onslaught of spam to emails like “legal@kanka.io”, “marketing@kanka.io” and the likes. The catch all setting has been disabled.
