We start 2025 with more quality of life updates, focusing on making existing features easier to use.

Higher image limits

Our latest satisfaction survey has revealed a common theme of some limits being too small on premium campaigns.

First of all, we are increasing the maximum image size on free campaigns from 1 Mib to 3 MiB, and maps from 3 Mib to 5 MiB.

Secondly, to host all of these larger images, we are increasing the gallery storage space on all free campaigns from 100 MiB to 150 MiB. For premium campaigns, the increase goes from 2 GiB to 3 GiB.

The maximum amount of file assets per entity has been increased as follow on premium campaigns is now 20 instead of 10.

Quicker bookmarks

When filtering a list of entities, a new “Bookmark” button appears to quickly create a bookmark based on the filters.

New bookmark button

We have also removed the bookmark’s position field from requiring a premium campaign. New filtered bookmarks will automatically appear below their module.

The bookmark can still be edited in the bookmarks interface.

Moving the entity actions menu

A frequent occurrence on the Discord is people asking if an existing feature hidden behind an entity’s cog icon exists (transform, move, delete, you name it). This is because the cog icon is a button but doesn’t look like a button.

We’ve fixed this by making it clearly a button next to the entity’s Edit button.

We know changing habits are hard, so if your account is from before 2025, the old cog icon will stay visible for a while, telling you to click on the new button.

Campaign overview and stats

The campaign overview has been updated to better represent actionable elements of the campaign. The campaign deletion button has been move to it’s own subpage (Settings > Deletion).

We’ve also introduced a new Stats subpage (Settings > Stats) that adds a few more stats than the previously available only entity count.

Should the campaign word count idea get enough support to be added to Kanka, it would have it’s home here.

General improvements

When uploading an image to the gallery, but the gallery is full, a proper message now pops up, hinting that a premium campaign has more storage space.

gallery full warning

In the campaign plugins management interface, renamed the bulk enable and disable buttons to enable/disable theme to avoid confusion. Non-themes also have a clear status icon with helper text on them always being enabled.

plugins status

When exploring a map, the details of a marker now includes the linked entity’s tags. We’ve also moved the Explore and Edit buttons to the top of the details, next to the marker’s name.

If the marker has a custom entry and the linked entity has an entry, both entries are separated by a new From entity header for clarity. This can be hidden with some custom CSS.

Campaigns get a new UI setting (Settings > Edit campaign > Interface) to control if subviews load all or only direct descendants by default. The new default is to only load direct descendants.

campaign setting filtering

When viewing an entity, the quick tagging UI now allows to create new tags on the fly.

The quick creator for creatures and races now allows setting locations.

The nicer default images, part of our subscriber bonuses, are now also visible for non-subscribers on premium campaigns.

You can now click on a category in the inventory UI to collapse it.

Lastly, campaigns which haven’t set up a campaign image are now prompted to do so in the sidebar.

Marketplace changes

We’ve re-designed how character sheets are saved and cleaned up. Some blade commands are now blacklisted on rendering rather than on saving, meaning that you will no longer lose content when hitting save. We’ve also whitelisted the @guest and @auth directives in blade, allowing you to target guest and logged in users.

PS: This fix means you can now write @for ( with a space before the parenthesis.

Bug fixes

Bugs? What bugs, we fixed all of those in 2024! Fixed a bug in the quick creator where a new organisation’s locations wasn’t being saved.

Map markers can be bulk-edited again.

That’s it for the overview of this 2.9 release. You can follow along what we’re working on next on our roadmap.
