Version 2.8 – Improved account safety

We close 2024 with a smaller update focusing on some quality of life changes.

Account safety

We are adding some extra layer of security to all accounts today. Whenever you change your account password, you will now receive an email notifying you, and this will also log you out from all other devices and require you to log in again.

This new invalidation logic is the reason why everyone has been logged out and required to log in again.

Note that this also happens when someone switches from a social login (Google, Facebook, X) to a Kanka email+password login.

New recovery UI

Please welcome our new recovery UI, now merging entities and posts into a single UI, along with filters and faster recovery. As a reminder, the recovery UI is accessed by clicking Settings in the sidebar, and then Recovery.

New applications UI

We’ve also improved the applications UI, making it easier to understand if the campaign can accept applications and managing those applications.

New entity history UI

The entity history (previously entity logs) UI has been changed. The link to view them has been renamed to “view changes”.

Instead of opening a modal, this now opens a full page with filters and more details visible.

Related, the campaign’s Recent Changes interface now also links posts titles.

General improvements

When loading an entity with a post anchor, the anchored post will be loaded even if it is normally behind the “load more” button.

It is now possible to tag tags. A few of you lunatics have been requesting this for years!

Added a “filter children” button on the ability overview’s page.

When editing the permissions of a role (Settings > Role > click on a role), it is now possible to allow members of the role to set templates for entities and posts, as well as manage the bookmarks of the campaign.

Bug fixes

Copy-pasting an image into the text editor will now track it in the gallery’s “used in” list.

Fixed a bug where it was possible to set a child as a parent, creating an endless loop.

The image URL field on maps was limited to 1MB instead of 3.5MB for free accounts.

When changing your account name, the change is directly reflected throughout the app instead of after 24 hours.

Fixed a bug when viewing the characters of a family not displaying their location.

When login in to an account that is set to log in using Fb/Google/X, a proper error message will be visible instead of a page crash.

That’s it for the overview of this 2.8 release. You can follow along what we’re working on next on our roadmap.
