When preparing your session using the Journals module, or working on an NPC, you sometimes have a fitting music, song, soundtrack or video that you want to play when they are revealed to the party. Kanka allows you to embed Youtube, Dailymotion and Spotify into your entity’s Entry field.
Embedding music from Youtube
Find a song you like on Youtube, and click on the “Share” button. Then, click on the “Embed” button, and click “Copy”. This will copy the embedded code to your clipboard.
Next up, go and edit your entity on Kanka. Click the “< >” (Source) button in the text editor, and paste the embed code somewhere in your entity’s html. It should look something like this:
<figure><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uv54ec8Pg1k" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></figure>
Save your changes, and when viewing your entity, Youtube’s video player will be displayed.
Adding Spotify Playlists and Dailymotion videos
The same principle applies for Spotify and Dailymotion. Navigate to a music, video or playlist you want to include, click on the “share” button, select “embed code”, and paste it in your entry field (making sure you switch to source mode first).
Source Mode too complicated
If pasting the embed code in Kanka’s source mode is too complicated, the following workaround works.
Edit your entity and paste the embed code into your entry field, without switching to source mode. This will inject the html as is. Save the entity and view it. As you can see, it displays the text instead of including your video.
Edit your entity again, and you’ll see the embed code now being properly parsed. Now save the entity again and it will display correctly in the view mode.
Other options
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, since Kanka allows any content from Youtube and Dailymotion, you can include videos. For example, if you have a trailer for your campaign on Youtube, you can embed it into a Note in Kanka, and add that note to the campaign’s dashboard. Now add your friends to your campaign so they can immerse themselves in the world you’ve build, enhanced by Audio! Also consider having your campaign be Public to allow others to discover it.
