Monthly Worldbuilding Challenge #2

February’s challenge had Indoril Mora dive deep into a fallen Dwarven civilisation, the Daruz-Khalär, and the Oathkeeper: a sentient weapon carrying the souls of a Dwarf, a Drow, and a High Elf whose peoples once intersected around those ruins. Interconnected entities, a historian narrator, political revisionism baked into an artefact. Chef’s kiss. Thank you Indoril for kicking things off.

We’re tweaking the format as we go. One thing we heard repeately: sharing a Kanka link only works if your campaign is public, and most aren’t. So from now on, a screenshot or a few lines of text is a completely valid submission. Private campaign, work in progress, rough draft, none of that disqualifies you. If it nudged your world forward, it counts.

March 2026’s theme: the one who was there first

The childhood friend. The mentor’s assistant. The ruler’s sibling who didn’t inherit. The character who was present at every important moment but never held the pen that wrote history. This month, build the person standing just off-centre in your world’s story. Think about who they are, what they witnessed, and what it cost them to be that close to significance without ever being the subject of it. If you need inspiration, go read The Goblin Emperor and you’ll know why this is this month’s theme.

Build at least one entity connected to the theme and share a screenshot, a short text, or a Kanka link in the challenge thread on our Discord‘s worldbuilding forum. No required format. No required length.

One month, one theme, no pressure. Happy worldbuilding!
